It is starting to warm up. After a leisurely breakfast and more good talk, we pile into the car and Dale gives us his tour of Atlanta. And what a tour it is! We see Marietta, we eat lunch at the OK CafĂ© (wonderful down home food), we visit Buckhead, Cabbagetown, and so many other parts of Atlanta that I can’t keep them all straight. Ann and Dale live about 35 miles northwest of Atlanta in Acworth, so there is a lot of stuff between them and Atlanta. We get out and walk around a neighborhood, checking out the woodworking store and various shops. We get an entirely different view of Atlanta than we did the last time we were there more than 10 years ago. It seems to be thriving.
There was a tornado that ripped through parts of Atlanta a month ago, and you can still see the vestiges of it with blue tarps on roofs, buildings ripped apart, thousands of panes of glass missing from central Atlanta buildings. In fact, two of the torch pylons in Olympic park were brought down and all that remains are the bases.
We have dinner at R Thomas, a funky, health-food type place in Atlanta and head back home. More conversation. To bed late once more.
