After a bagel and bacon and tomato breakfast, we break camp, again in the rain. It takes a bit of maneuvering to get close enough to the drain to dump the tanks. We left the extension at home, of course. We check out the Tims Ford Dam on the way out. Pretty impressive. Built in 1973 in a narrow part of the valley, with rock outcroppings, it’s a pretty massive thing.
We decide to bop down into Alabama. Donna Santistevan’s rule for counting a state has having been visited is that you have to eat there. We aren’t sure whether that means you have to buy a meal there or you can just eat. We try to check with Joe and Donna, but get no answer. We eat lunch from the leftovers in our refrigerator in a small town (after stopping and shopping at the Lodge Outlet Store) and decide it counts. Joe calls back; can’t give us a definitive answer. Gives us Donna’s cell phone. We call her in Orlando and get the word. It counts. We can add Alabama to our list of states traveled in our RV. Should we get one of those maps you put on the side of the RV? Any day now.
We have one more stop before hitting Georgia—the Camping World store. To fix the toilet ‘shower’ head. We have to buy the entire assembly ($40) to get the head. One problem fixed. Norb also buys a new, wider panorama mirror for the right side mirror.
It is almost 6 by the time we arrive at Ann Glendinning and Dale Kelly’s house. They ply us with liquor and appetizers and wonderful conversation. We sit at the dinner table until almost 11 talking. We met Ann and Dale on our Russia cruise and enjoyed them immensely then. We still enjoy them immensely.
